james: i have to say that i really wasn't looking forward to the feature interview with the idol winner because you know, it just isn't my scene. i am of course happy for the winner and all the contestants, but i just didn't get into that. i started to listen anyway to the interview and thought it was nice because the amys got along well, but i tell ya, once she started talking about her life and her family and coming out, all of a sudden i became a big fan! a lot of times we hear about coming out experiences that were easy or went surprisingly well, and families turned out to know and be totally cool, but it helps both to hear from others who've come out after their early 20s or whatever, and whose coming out did not go all that well. these people, like amy kelly, who keep on living and loving their families in spite of the difficult coming out, are true inspirations to maybe some of us who are still struggling with these issues.... read more

jeff S: Amy! Michael J gave us all alot of happiness and sadley enough,he died probably as lonely as u can imagine because only his dr's and closet friends (who actually lived w/ him) stood by him. Of course, he loved his kids Blanket,Prince Michael and Paris. I will miss MJ's great style and care of the world he had because he was original and everyone else had to follow his strides and evolution into the music biz.

Amy Off-Air: HOMOPHOBIA ON FOX-AND I DON'T MEAN ON IDOL
2009-05-22

I sent this letter to the Executives of FOX TV today.
Please join me in this call to action.
www.glaad.org/Page.aspx?pid=680

Dear Fox Executives:

I simply LOVE So You think You Can Dance. It showcases such talent and
emotion and diversity. But then I watch your premiere last night.

HOW can you continue to allow Nigel to perpetuate homophobic remarks season after season? Enough is enough.
"You need to butch up"
"I'd like to see you dance with a girl"
"you dance like a man"

I am over it! Unacceptable.
There are many GLBT people in the world of dance - Michael Bennett, Mark Morris, Alvin Ailey, Jerome Robbins -- perhaps he has heard of them. And it is offensive to the youth of today impressionable when watching that show.

Would he say, "you dance too black" or "you need to white it up"...or tell a girl "don't dance like a guy"

He needs to change.....NOW.
Dance is a world of inclusion, an extension of one's soul and diversity of one's spirit.

Come on Nigel. I expect better than you. We ALL should.

Respectfully,
Amy Matheny
Chicago, IL
