WCQ405 The Church and the Gay Community with Rev. Eric Christiansen 2011-02-22
Host: Amy Matheny
Amy is solo today dishing a little on the upcoming Oscars. She watched some Turner Classic Movies on the 31 days of Oscar. Who is she pulling for - Annette Bening or Natalie Portman? What is her pick for Best Film? She also touches a bit on today's guest and the spiritual conversation they have on the Church and our community.
Guest: Rev. Eric Christiansen joins Amy on the Queercast to talk about the Church and the gay community. Eric is the Pastor of St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Logan's Square and is also bisexual. Pastor Eric shares his coming out story and how his family reacted. He also answers some questions regarding the strides or progress we've made over the last 10 years. They discuss the words "Christian" and "Evangelical" and how they've been used and misused over the years. Was Jesus the first activist? For more on Rev. Eric and his Church visit www.stlukesls.org.
Eric: Amy - thank you so much for doing this show! Erik echoed so many of my own observations including a call to the gay community to show love to Christians. Sometimes as a gay man and a Christian I am aware that neither community seems to "want" me.
