WCQ186 2008 Oscars Show

Host: Amy Matheny with Guest Host Kelli Simpkins

Dish: The Oscars – Why we love to watch. The L Word – Why do we still watch?

Guest: Kelli Simpkins joins Amy to talk about this year's Oscar show. They cover John Stewart's furry paws, the glam, the winners, the pod people and the real aliens. Find out who inspired them, whose speech did Kelli dig, and whose post-Oscar PR rubbed her the wrong way. Amy was all about the red dresses and, of course, Helen Mirren. After the Oscars, Amy and Kelli ask lesbians - why are we still watching the L Word? It's time we will never get back! If you watch and throw stuff at the television during the show, please send us a comment. We love to commiserate with others. If you still enjoy the show, please tell us why! Reasons other than Jennifer Beals - she’s just a no brainer.

Music Featured on this Queercast:
Madonna – "Hollywood"
Glen Hansard & Markéta Irglová – "Falling Slowly" the Oscar winning song from the motion picture, Once.

John Clark: As always, loved the show. BUT.... I am surprised that you (Amy) and Kelli went to of all places... Jamaic... a for a holiday!!!! Jamaica must be one of the moat 'phobic places to visit, Honophobia is "state condoned", if not "state sponsored". see:- I would think that the both of you could spend your "gay $" in a better place. Aw ra best Jock P.S. Could this be a topic for a future show? Holiday destinations that are "open"?

Jeff: Hi Amy! I loved the show w/ u and partner..It was super fun...I can't wait to see next weekend...Kelli was alot of fun to listen as a guest..I think I have seen her at different GI events in years past...Take care,Jeff

Amy M: Jock - Thanks for your comment! Listen to my show with Mitchell where I explain going to trip...with a friend from college..that I was invited last minute. But I would not go back to Jamaica based on their politics and the INTENSE homophobic climate. you are right! there are better places to spend my gay dollars. But most of the Caribbean islands are problematic...which is hard cause I love me some islands! keep listening! and keep commenting! and JEFF - You probably have seen my gal before at an IDOL event! She was nervous but it was fun to let you all into my living room and our commentary on the Oscars....cause we do WORK IT OUT and call it as we see it. ciao, Amy
